Nearly 30 years after stealing scenes on Martin, Tommy Davidson is officially bringing one of the sitcom’s most unforgettable characters back to television.

Paramount+ has released the first-look images for The Varnell Hill Show, the highly anticipated Martin spinoff that premieres September 1.

The eight-episode comedy will kick off with a two-episode premiere, followed by new episodes every Tuesday through October 13.

Davidson reprises his fan-favorite role as Varnell Hill, the over-the-top talk show host who is determined to reclaim his place in the entertainment world. But staying relevant in today’s media landscape proves to be easier said than done.

Set behind the scenes of Varnell’s fictional late-night talk show, the series follows his battle to keep his television empire alive while dealing with demanding network executives, a dysfunctional writers’ room, celebrity guests, family drama, and his own larger-than-life ego.

Joining Davidson in the cast are Kym Whitley, Wendy Raquel Robinson, Nick Cafero, Emmanuel Hudson, and Chris Williams.

The series will also feature an impressive lineup of guest stars, including Ms. Pat, Deon Cole, Damon Wayans, Mike Epps, Omarion, and Martin Lawrence, who also serves as an executive producer.

The comedy is led by veteran television creator Bentley Kyle Evans, who serves as writer, director, showrunner and executive producer. The project is produced in association with BET Studios alongside Jesse Collins Entertainment, Runteldat Entertainment, and Harvest Studios.

Fans of the original Martin series have long hoped to see Varnell Hill return, and now they’ll finally get to watch the loud, flashy TV personality navigate a whole new era of entertainment.
