Stefon Diggs Headed Home! Washington Commanders Sign DMV Native to $12 Million Deal Amid Ongoing Legal Battles

Stefon Diggs is officially headed back home.

The veteran wide receiver has agreed to a one-year, $12 million deal with the Washington Commanders, giving the NFC contender another proven playmaker alongside star receiver Terry McLaurin.

For Diggs, the move is a homecoming. The four-time Pro Bowler was born in Gaithersburg, Maryland, starred at Our Lady of Good Counsel High School in Olney, and later played college football at the University of Maryland before launching an impressive NFL career.

Washington had been searching for a reliable No. 2 receiver after injuries exposed a lack of depth last season. After exploring several options during the offseason, the Commanders ultimately landed Diggs, who remains one of the league’s most productive pass catchers.

Despite entering his 12th NFL season, the 32-year-old showed last year that he still has plenty left in the tank. Playing for the New England Patriots, Diggs recorded 85 receptions for 1,013 yards, surpassing the 1,000-yard mark for the seventh time in his career after recovering from a torn ACL suffered during his stint with the Houston Texans.

Originally drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in 2015, Diggs became a household name with the Buffalo Bills, where he led the NFL in both receptions (127) and receiving yards (1,535) during the 2020 season while earning First-Team All-Pro honors.

While the signing strengthens Washington’s offense, Diggs continues to deal with legal matters off the field.

Earlier this year, Diggs was acquitted of felony strangulation and misdemeanor assault charges stemming from allegations made by a former live-in chef. Following the trial, the NFL determined there was insufficient evidence that he violated the league’s personal conduct policy, meaning he will not face league discipline related to that case.

However, Diggs remains involved in multiple civil lawsuits.

One ongoing legal battle involves Christopher Griffith, who has accused Diggs of sexual assault. Diggs has denied the allegations and previously filed a defamation lawsuit against Griffith. The case remains active.

Diggs is also facing a separate civil lawsuit filed by Nigel King, who alleges the NFL star falsely accused him of stealing a Ferrari and later orchestrated an assault against him. Diggs has denied those allegations as well.

With football now back in focus, the Commanders are betting Diggs can help elevate their offense as they chase a playoff run in 2026.
