FIRST LOOK! “MARTIN” SPINOFF “THE VARNELL HILL SHOW” DROPS FIRST TRAILER — MARTIN PAYNE RETURNS!
The Martin universe is getting another chapter — and Varnell Hill is ready to take over late-night! 😂🔥
Paramount+ has dropped the first trailer for ** The Varnell Hill Show **, the upcoming comedy spinoff based on the unforgettable character played by Tommy Davidson on Martin.
The eight-episode series premieres Tuesday, September 1, and the trailer gives fans a look at Varnell’s latest struggle: trying to keep his longtime talk show alive in an industry that’s changing faster than he can keep up.
Set behind the scenes of Varnell’s late-night talk show, the series follows the larger-than-life host as declining ratings and network executives threaten to shake up everything he’s built.
Varnell isn’t exactly ready to embrace the new era.
When his assistant Rachel Perkins, played by Wendy Raquel Robinson, tries to convince him to modernize the show, Varnell makes it clear he’s not interested in turning his program into “TikTok Tonight.” 😂
The series mixes workplace comedy with satire, cutaways and fourth-wall-breaking moments as Varnell attempts to maintain his status as the biggest star in the building.
And then comes the moment Martin fans have been waiting for…
The trailer features Martin Lawrence returning as Martin Payne, seemingly stopping by to clown Varnell about his fashion choices and give his old friend a hard time.
It’s a full-circle moment that connects the new series directly back to the classic Martin universe.
If Varnell’s ratings weren’t enough to worry about, the show is bringing some major names through Stage 69.
