Martin Lawrence Denies Claims of Humiliation Rituals for Actors Wearing Dresses In Hollywood
Martin Lawrence is setting the record straight about the long-standing narrative that male actors donning dresses in films or TV is part of a so-called “humiliation ritual” in Hollywood. The comedy legend, known for his iconic role in Big Momma’s House, addressed the claims during a recent conversation, refuting the idea entirely.
The allegations of such a ritual have been previously mentioned by Lawrence’s Big Momma co-star Brandon T. Jackson and comedian Katt Williams. Both have publicly speculated that actors being asked to wear dresses is part of a larger scheme to emasculate or humiliate Black men in Hollywood.
However, Lawrence dismissed the claims, emphasizing that his decision to wear a dress in the Big Momma films was strictly a creative choice and a comedic role. “That narrative isn’t true,” Lawrence reportedly said, standing firm in his belief that his work was never about humiliation but about entertaining audiences.
