Chris Brown’s $90 Million Dog Attack Trial Ends In Mistrial Before It Even Gets Started
Chris Brown showed up to court ready to fight back against a former housekeeper’s claims that she was severely injured by one of his dogs, but the trial came to an abrupt halt after a judge declared a mistrial just moments after proceedings began.
The lawsuit was filed by Maria Avila, a former housekeeper who alleges she suffered serious physical and emotional injuries after being attacked by a large dog while taking out the trash at Brown’s Los Angeles home in 2020.
According to reports, a jury had already been selected and opening proceedings were underway when the judge suddenly declared a mistrial and dismissed everyone from the courtroom. The decision reportedly came after it was discovered that a juror had researched the case before trial and shared information with other jurors, violating court rules.
As he exited the courthouse, Brown appeared unfazed by the setback.
When asked about the mistrial, the Grammy-winning singer simply responded, “It happens.”
Brown also reacted to Maria Avila’s reported $90 million damages claim, calling the amount “crazy.”
The singer appeared more focused on his upcoming projects, encouraging fans to prepare for his highly anticipated co-headlining tour with Usher.
The lawsuit centers around allegations that one of Brown’s dogs attacked Avila while she was working at his residence, causing injuries to her face, neck, and arms. Avila claims the attack left her with lasting physical and emotional trauma.
Brown has denied wrongdoing throughout the legal battle, arguing that he should not be held responsible for the alleged injuries.
Ahead of trial, Brown’s legal team successfully convinced the court to exclude any references to his 2009 domestic violence case involving Rihanna. Meanwhile, Avila sought permission to present graphic photos of the injuries she says she suffered during the incident.
In previous deposition testimony, a member of Brown’s security team claimed Avila and her family were paid between $30,000 and $40,000 following the alleged attack.
For now, the case remains unresolved, and a new trial date is expected to be scheduled at a later time.
