Rapper Mystikal is heading back to prison after being sentenced to 20 years behind bars in connection with a rape case stemming from a 2022 incident at his Louisiana home.

The New Orleans rapper, whose real name is Michael Lawrence Tyler, was sentenced after previously pleading guilty to third-degree rape as part of an agreement with prosecutors.

According to reports from the courtroom, the victim delivered an emotional statement before sentencing, detailing the trauma she says she endured during the assault. She reportedly told the judge that Mystikal choked her, punched her, and forcibly raped her inside his residence.

The victim requested that the court impose the maximum sentence allowed under the law.

During the hearing, Mystikal reportedly addressed the court and stated, “If I did that to you, I deserve the max sentence.”

Under Louisiana law, Mystikal faced up to 25 years in prison. The judge ultimately sentenced him to 20 years.

The case marks another serious legal setback for the rapper, who has faced previous sexual assault-related convictions. In 2003, Mystikal was convicted of sexual battery and served several years in prison before being released in 2010. Following that conviction, he was required to register as a lifetime sex offender.

Once considered one of the biggest stars on No Limit Records, Mystikal rose to fame with hits such as “Shake Ya Ass” and “Danger (Been So Long).” However, his career has been repeatedly overshadowed by legal troubles throughout the years.

The sentencing brings an end to one of the most closely watched criminal cases involving the veteran rapper and could effectively close the chapter on any hopes of a major career comeback.
