Queens Got the Bag! Nas Secures $5.5B Queens Casino Deal While Jay-Z’s Times Square Bet Folds

Queens is cashing in big — and Nas is right in the middle of it. The New York State Gaming Commission just approved a historic $5.5 billion Resorts World Casino project in Queens, and the legendary rapper’s name is attached to one of the largest developments the borough has ever seen.

Though Nas wasn’t physically present at the meeting, his presence was felt in spirit — especially when Queens Borough President Donovan Richards decided to spice things up. Right before his decisive vote, Richards fired off a shot at Brooklyn’s failed casino bid, led by Jay-Z’s Roc Nation and Caesars Palace.

“Sorry, Jay-Z, we win again,” Richards said, a line that instantly sparked buzz for echoing the essence of Nas’ legendary diss record Ether. He even doubled down, saying he wanted Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso to feel the “soul burn slow.”

Of course, Roc Nation didn’t take that lightly. Desiree Perez, the company’s president, quickly clapped back, blasting those who turned down Brooklyn’s proposal and arguing that the project could’ve brought long-term financial and cultural benefits to the borough.

Still, Queens is walking away with the W for now. The $5.5B Resorts World Casino still needs its official gaming license, but insiders say approval could come before year’s end — making Queens a major player in New York’s booming gambling scene.

Beyond the borough rivalry, this is a massive moment for Nas. The Queensbridge icon is now tied to a game-changing deal that blends music, culture, and economic power in his hometown — proving once again that Queens stays winning.
