The Atlanta Police Department has just released shocking footage of New Orleans fugitive Derrick Groves β€” and it’s got the internet talking. In the video, Groves can be seen blowing a kiss to the camera as officers placed him in the back of an APD patrol car, looking completely unfazed after months on the run.

On October 8th, 2025, U.S. Marshals and Atlanta Police finally caught up with the 28-year-old fugitive in the 2100 block of Honeysuckle Lane SW. The U.S. Marshals Service Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force, in collaboration with APD and Clayton County Police, made the arrest after months of tracking Groves’ movements.

Groves had been on the run since May 2025, when he and nine others made a daring escape from the Orleans Parish City Jail in New Orleans. Authorities say he was the last of the 10 escapees still at large.

Before his breakout, Groves had been convicted of two counts of Murder, two counts of Attempted Murder, and a federal firearms charge, earning him a life sentence plus five years.

Officials confirmed that Groves will be extradited back to Louisiana, where he’ll be processed and transferred to Louisiana State Penitentiary (Angola) to serve out the remainder of his sentence.
