Shannon Sharpe Reportedly Offered $10 Million Settlement Before Sexual Assault Lawsuit Was Filed

NFL Hall of Famer and sports media personality Shannon Sharpe is facing a $50 million civil lawsuit filed by a woman identified as Jane Doe, who accuses him of multiple instances of sexual assault during their nearly two-year relationship. Sharpe has vehemently denied the allegations, labeling them as “viciously false” and asserting that their encounters were consensual and included role-playing scenarios.

According to Sharpe’s attorney, Lanny Davis, prior to the lawsuit’s filing, Sharpe was prepared to settle the matter through mediation, offering at least $10 million. However, the plaintiff rejected the offer and proceeded with legal action. Davis characterized the lawsuit as a “shakedown” and accused the plaintiff’s attorney, Tony Buzbee, of targeting Black men, citing Buzbee’s involvement in similar lawsuits against other high-profile Black celebrities.

The lawsuit alleges that Sharpe became increasingly abusive and controlling over time, including threats and non-consensual recording of sexual encounters. Sharpe’s legal team has released text messages purportedly showing consensual role-playing initiated by the plaintiff and claims that any audio recordings have been taken out of context. They have also called for the release of the full, unedited video evidence to provide complete context.

Sharpe has publicly stated his intention to defend himself vigorously against the allegations and has indicated plans to countersue for defamation. He emphasized his commitment to transparency and truth in addressing the situation.

As the case unfolds, it continues to draw significant public and legal scrutiny.
