Shannon Sharpe Reaches Settlement in Civil Rape Lawsuit

The civil rape case brought against NFL Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe has officially been settled, according to a statement released Friday by Tony Buzbee, the attorney representing the woman who filed the suit.

Buzbee announced via Instagram that, “after protracted and respectful negotiations,” both sides “reached a mutually agreed upon resolution.” While the details of the agreement remain confidential, Buzbee confirmed that “all matters have now been addressed satisfactorily, and the matter is closed.” The lawsuit will be dismissed with prejudice, meaning it cannot be refiled.

The woman, identified in court documents only as Jane Doe, sued Sharpe in April, accusing him of repeatedly raping and abusing her between late 2024 and early 2025. She claimed they first met at a Los Angeles gym in 2023 when she was 20 years old and that the relationship quickly became abusive, both verbally and physically.

In the days following the suit, Buzbee released an audio clip that appeared to feature a man—allegedly Sharpe—making threatening remarks, including a statement about choking the accuser. Sharpe denied all allegations, calling the lawsuit “a shakedown” and vowing to pursue a defamation suit in response.

“I know my family and fans know exactly what this is about,” Sharpe said in a statement on April 30. “And I’m going to be out there telling you whatever I need to say, just like I always do. I love all you guys. Thanks.”

As of now, Sharpe’s legal team has not issued a comment on the settlement.

The resolution ends what had quickly become a high-profile and controversial legal battle, though questions remain about the fallout for Sharpe’s public image and future media ventures.
