Jaleel White Calls Out Us Weekly for Using His Photo in Malcolm-Jamal Warner Mourning Post
Jaleel White is not here for sloppy journalism — and he’s calling out Us Weekly for a serious mix-up.
The actor, best known for his iconic role as Steve Urkel on Family Matters, took to Instagram after the magazine mistakenly used his photo in a post about the passing of fellow actor Malcolm-Jamal Warner. Warner, beloved for his role as Theo Huxtable on The Cosby Show, tragically passed away earlier this week.
The mix-up did not go unnoticed by fans. One fan reposted the Us Weekly story to their Instagram and tagged White, writing, “AYO @jaleelwhite Sue them for me real quick fam.”
White, clearly frustrated, reposted the story with his own caption:
“All for clicks? Gusweekly i Cmon Guys, fix this.”

While Us Weekly has yet to issue a public correction or apology, the error has sparked backlash across social media, with many calling out the outlet for carelessness and lack of respect during a time of mourning.
White and Warner, though both prominent Black sitcom stars of the late ’80s and ’90s, are distinct figures in Hollywood — and fans are urging media outlets to be more responsible when covering sensitive news.
