Lionel Richie Takes A Break From The Stage After Heart Procedure

Lionel Richie is taking some time away from the stage after recently undergoing a heart procedure.

The 77-year-old music legend was hospitalized and underwent a procedure to treat atrial fibrillation (AFib), an irregular heartbeat. According to his representative, the procedure “went perfectly,” and Richie is doing well. He is now taking some time off to recover before returning to performing.

Because of the procedure, three upcoming dates on Richie and Earth, Wind & Fire’s Sing a Song All Night Long Tour have been canceled, including scheduled stops in San Francisco, Chicago and Columbus.

Richie was also hospitalized last month as a precaution following his August 29 performance in St. Louis. He underwent cardiac testing before being released and returning to Los Angeles.
