Ice Cube & Nia Long Set To Reunite In ‘Are They Gone Yet?’ Sequel As Classic Franchise Returns With A New Family Twist

Ice Cube and Nia Long are officially stepping back into one of their most iconic on-screen roles as Hollywood revisits the beloved “Are We There Yet?” franchise more than two decades later.

According to reports, a new sequel titled Are They Gone Yet? is currently in development at Skydance Sports, bringing back Ice Cube as Nick and Nia Long as Suzanne — this time focusing on the next generation of their family.

The upcoming film reportedly centers on Nick and Suzanne navigating life as grandparents, with Cube joking that his character now faces his “biggest challenge yet… grandkids.”

“We built something special with this franchise,” Ice Cube said in a statement, reflecting on the long-running success of the films. The original Are We There Yet? premiered in 2005, followed by Are We Done Yet? in 2007 and a TV spin-off that aired on TBS in 2010.

Cube emphasized the cultural impact of the series, noting that audiences have grown up alongside the characters. “Audiences grew up with Nick Persons, and now Nick’s got grandkids. Time flies,” he added.

The rapper-turned-actor, whose production company CubeVision has been behind projects like Barbershop and Straight Outta Compton, said partnering with Skydance marks a new chapter for the franchise aimed at both longtime fans and a new generation.

While plot details remain limited, the film is expected to explore family dynamics, aging, and the humor that made the original films a box office favorite.

The screenplay is being developed by writers Chris Hazzard and Mike Fontana, with a director yet to be announced.

The original 2005 film followed Nick Persons as he attempted to win over Suzanne by taking her children on a chaotic road trip — a storyline that became a fan favorite and turned the film into a pop culture staple.

Nia Long continues to stay active in Hollywood, recently appearing in the Michael Jackson biopic Michael, while Ice Cube remains busy with multiple film projects, including Last Friday, the next installment in his legendary franchise.

With nostalgia at an all-time high, fans are already buzzing about the return of one of early 2000s comedy’s most iconic duos.
