It’s giving grown, sexy, and nostalgic! 💫

Hollywood legends Nia Long and Larenz Tate are teaming up once again — nearly three decades after setting the bar for Black love stories in the 1997 classic Love Jones.

The beloved duo is set to star in a new romantic drama for Netflix, directed by Eugene Ashe (Sylvie’s Love) and inspired by none other than Maxwell’s debut masterpiece, Urban Hang Suite.

According to Deadline, the film was officially greenlit by Netflix, with Kay Oyegun (This Is Us) writing the script. The project’s vibe draws directly from Maxwell’s iconic 1996 album — a smooth, sensual R&B journey that defined an era and helped usher in the neo-soul movement.

While the plot is still under wraps, sources say it’ll capture the same kind of emotional storytelling, sensual tension, and soulful energy that made Urban Hang Suite a timeless classic.

Both Long and Tate are executive producers on the project, alongside Maxwell, John D. Hammond, and a powerhouse production team from Macro Film Studios — including James Lopez, Charles D. King, and Poppy Hanks.

For fans of Love Jones, this reunion is more than just a movie — it’s a full-circle moment. The original film, which followed poet Darius Lovehall (Tate) and photographer Nina Mosley (Long) through the highs and heartbreaks of creative Black love, remains one of the most quoted and rewatched Black romances of all time.

The two actors recently reunited for the upcoming Michael Jackson biopic Michael, but this Netflix feature marks their first leading romantic film together in years.

If you’ve been missing that ’90s slow-burn love, consider this your official sign — it’s back, and it’s grown. 🖤
