R.I.P. Buc Wild: Former HOT 97 “Star & Buc Wild” Co-Host Dies at 47

The New York radio community is mourning the loss of Timothy “Buc Wild” Joseph.

Joseph, the former HOT 97 radio personality and co-host of the legendary “Star & Buc Wild” show, has died at the age of 47.

His longtime friend and former co-host Star announced Joseph’s passing during a YouTube livestream on Wednesday, Sept. 9, delivering an emotional tribute to the man he described as his “son” and alleged half brother.

Star said Joseph died Sunday at the Pink Houses in Brooklyn. He also mentioned possible fentanyl involvement, while emphasizing that he had not received official confirmation of the cause of death.

“Buc Wild” was remembered not only for his work on HOT 97, but for the unique bond he shared with Star. Star opened up about Joseph’s dyslexia and recalled helping him improve his reading skills while they worked together at the station. The pair even created the memorable “Buc Wild’s Lottery Numbers” segment, turning Joseph’s attempts to read lottery numbers on air into a moment designed to build his confidence rather than embarrass him.

Star also credited HOT 97 colleagues Tracy Claudy and Judy Ellis for supporting Joseph throughout his radio career.

Despite the challenges Joseph faced, Star stressed that his longtime friend was deeply loved and had a strong support system. Their relationship, he said, spanned decades and included plenty of arguments, but ultimately remained rooted in friendship and loyalty.

Fans quickly took to social media to mourn the former radio personality, sharing memories of listening to “Star & Buc Wild” and celebrating Joseph’s impact on New York radio.

As Star put it, there is still much more to say about his longtime friend.

Buc Wild was 47. May he rest in peace. 🕊️
