Florida Ex-Probation Officer Accused Of Snitching For Drug Ring, Faces 113 Felony Charges And Up To 565 Years In Prison
A former Florida juvenile probation officer is facing a staggering number of felony charges after authorities say she used confidential government databases to help members of a drug trafficking organization avoid arrest.
According to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, Crystal Lawson was arrested after investigators discovered she allegedly accessed sensitive criminal case information and leaked it to individuals connected to a drug ring.
Law enforcement claims Lawson used the Comprehensive Case Information System (CCIS) to search active criminal investigations, arrest warrants, and information about co-defendants involved in ongoing cases. Authorities allege she then warned members and associates of the drug trafficking organization that investigators were closing in and had already secured warrants for their arrests.
In a statement posted on social media, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office said Lawson was able to locate multiple active, unserved warrants, identify co-defendants, and leak critical information to suspects before law enforcement could take action.
Investigators say the alleged leaks had serious consequences, including lost evidence, unrecovered assets, and at least one suspect fleeing to avoid arrest.
According to authorities, Lawson began working for the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice in February 2022 but was terminated later that same year following a battery arrest. Despite being fired, investigators claim she somehow retained access to the state’s criminal database.
The sheriff’s office alleges Lawson illegally accessed the system 106 times between January and May of this year. She now faces 113 felony counts of unauthorized computer access and related computer crimes.
If convicted, Lawson could face up to five years in prison for each count. While sentencing would ultimately be determined by a judge, the maximum penalties attached to the charges total an eye-popping 565 years behind bars.
The investigation remains ongoing.
