A New Generation Heads to Camp: ‘Camp Rock 3’ Reunites the Jonas Brothers and Demi Lovato 18 Years Later

Camp Rock is officially back. Eighteen years after Disney Channel first introduced audiences to the music-filled summer camp, “Camp Rock 3” premiered Thursday night, bringing the Jonas Brothers and Demi Lovato back to the franchise while opening the doors for an entirely new generation of Disney talent.

Joe, Nick and Kevin Jonas reprise their roles as Shane, Nate and Jason Gray of Connect 3. This time around, the group returns to Camp Rock in search of an opening act for their reunion tour, setting off a competition among a new class of ambitious young performers.

Leading the next generation are Liamani Segura as Sage and Malachi Barton as Fletch, alongside Lumi Pollack, Hudson Stone, Casey Trotter, Brooklynn Pitts and Ava Jean. Maria Canals-Barrera also returns as Connie Torres, who now serves as director of Camp Rock.

But longtime fans received another major dose of nostalgia with the return of Demi Lovato as Mitchie Torres. Lovato, who also serves as an executive producer on the film alongside the Jonas Brothers, makes her return to the role that helped launch her into global stardom.

The original Camp Rock became a defining piece of Disney Channel’s late-2000s era when it premiered in 2008, followed by Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam in 2010. Now, 18 years after it all began, Disney is using the franchise’s familiar faces and music-driven foundation to introduce its next class of stars.

Rather than simply recreating the past, “Camp Rock 3” represents a passing of the torch — connecting the generation that grew up singing along with Mitchie and Connect 3 with young viewers discovering Camp Rock for the first time.

And judging by the return of some very familiar faces, one thing remains true nearly two decades later:

We still rock.

Camp Rock 3 premiered August 13 on Disney Channel and begins streaming August 14 on Disney+.
