Few artists have experienced the kind of meteoric rise that Shaboozey has over the last two years. What began as standout appearances on Beyoncé’s groundbreaking Cowboy Carter album, including the fan-favorite “SPAGHETTII“—quickly evolved into one of the biggest breakout stories in modern music.

Since then, Shaboozey has become a Grammy Award winner, earned multiple Grammy nominations, and cemented himself as one of the defining voices of country’s new generation. His collaboration “Amen” with Jelly Roll earned him his first Grammy victory for Best Country Duo/Group Performance, marking another milestone in an already remarkable career.

His crossover anthem “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” rewrote the record books, tying for the second-longest No. 1 run in Billboard Hot 100 history with an incredible 19 weeks atop the chart—an achievement that places him alongside some of the biggest records ever released. In late 2024, Shaboozey also delivered a memorable performance during Beyoncé’s NFL Christmas Day “Beyoncé Bowl” halftime spectacular, further showcasing his growing influence on one of entertainment’s biggest stages.

I had the opportunity to attend Shaboozey’s album release celebration for his latest project, The Outlaw Cherie Lee & Other Western Tales, and one moment immediately stood out.

As we greeted each other, Shaboozey looked at me, laughed, and joked:

“Prince, how do you come to my event trying to outdress me?” Laughing, I replied: “This is my usual attire.”

It was a lighthearted exchange that perfectly reflected the energy of the evening. Even while celebrating another major milestone in his career, Shaboozey remained approachable, charismatic, and fully engaged with those who came out to support him.

Rather than chasing another collection of radio-ready singles, The Outlaw Cherie Lee & Other Western Tales finds Shaboozey leaning into cinematic storytelling. The 20-track concept album features appearances from Jamie Foxx, Teyana Taylor, Sam Elliott, Gunna, Leon Bridges, Kehlani and Orville Peck, blending country, Americana, hip-hop, and soul into an ambitious narrative project. Early reviews have praised the album’s storytelling, world-building, and willingness to expand the boundaries of contemporary country music.
