Sean Kingston’s Mother Sentenced to 5 Years in Federal Prison for $1M Luxury Fraud Scheme

Sean Kingston’s mother, Janice Turner, has officially been sentenced to federal prison following her conviction in a high-profile wire fraud and theft case involving over $1 million in luxury goods.

A Miami judge handed down the sentence—five years in federal prison followed by three years of supervised release—after finding Turner guilty of orchestrating an elaborate scheme alongside her son to defraud jewelers, luxury car dealers, and high-end vendors using fake wire transfers and bogus payment confirmations.

The 62-year-old appeared visibly emotional in court, telling the judge:

“I’m sorry. My intention was to keep my son afloat in this difficult industry.”

Turner painted a picture of a mother trying to protect her son, claiming the music business had taken advantage of Kingston and that her only goal was to support him through the chaos.

But the court wasn’t swayed. Prosecutors argued the scheme was calculated and intentional, pointing to court documents that described Turner and Kingston working together to steal luxury items without ever paying a dime.

Turner’s legal team had requested a lighter 30-month sentence, citing her health issues, limited criminal history, and the outpouring of character letters that described her as a “pillar” in her community. They also asked the court to allow Turner to serve her sentence close to Miami so her family could visit regularly.

Despite those pleas, the judge opted for a stricter sentence, citing the scale of the fraud and the sophisticated methods used to carry it out.

A restitution hearing is scheduled for October to determine how much of the stolen money—and goods—can be recovered and returned to the victims.

While Sean Kingston has not yet been sentenced, his legal fate still hangs in the balance. As for Turner, she is preparing to begin her five-year sentence behind bars.
