Heartbreaking new details have surfaced following the tragic death of legendary actor Malcolm-Jamal Warner. Costa Rican officials have confirmed that the 54-year-old was swimming with his 8-year-old daughter when the fatal incident occurred.

According to a report from ABC News, surfers in the area spotted Warner and his daughter struggling in the waters off Playa Cocles, a beach in Costa Rica’s Limón province. The surfers immediately sprang into action—one was able to pull Warner’s daughter to safety, while a volunteer lifeguard helped bring Warner and another assisting surfer to shore.

Despite more than 45 minutes of CPR, Warner was ultimately declared deceased at the scene.

The Forensic Pathology Department has since completed an autopsy and confirmed that Warner died from asphyxiation by submersion—a medical determination consistent with drowning.

Warner, best known for his iconic role as Theo Huxtable on The Cosby Show, had been vacationing with his family at the time of the tragedy. His untimely death has left fans, friends, and the entertainment community in deep mourning.
