Steph Curry Shuts Down Katt Williams’ Claim: “I’ve Never Met Him”
Steph Curry is clearing the air after comedian Katt Williams made a bold—and bizarre—claim during his viral Club Shay Shay interview with Shannon Sharpe.
In the January 2024 episode, Williams alleged that he played a key role in shaping Curry’s legendary jump shot, saying he helped the future NBA MVP early in his career. The statement raised eyebrows at the time, and now Curry is finally addressing it directly—and shutting it all the way down.
In a recent sit-down interview with Speedy Morman for Complex, the Golden State Warriors star was asked about the claim, with Speedy joking, “A lot of ways we have Katt Williams to thank for your shooting ability, right?”
Curry responded with a laugh and a deadpan denial:
“I’ve actually never met him.”
Stunned, Speedy followed up, “You never met Katt?”
“No,” Curry said. “It’s interesting that you can never meet somebody who’s supposedly single-handedly taught you everything you know about shooting. That’s the power of storytelling.”
Curry was careful not to completely discredit Williams as a person but was firm about the facts:
“I’m not saying everything he says is fabricated, but that specific story—100% never happened.”
The story was so convincing, Curry admitted, that even his own relatives were fooled.
“He had my family calling me. I was like, ‘Bro, I believed it!’” Curry said with a grin.
Curry went on to add that during the time frame Katt claimed to have coached him, he was an underrated, three-star recruit—hardly the type of player being flown out for elite camps or training with celebrities.
“Ain’t no way I’m getting paid to come somewhere to play in an all-star game or all-star camp,” Curry recalled. “And I’ve never seen Katt shoot—same. I know he plays golf now, so that’s what I’ve seen. I’d love to play golf with him at some point.”
Still, Curry made one thing crystal clear:
“Yeah, I won’t be thanking Katt in my retirement speech.”
With four NBA championships, two MVP awards, and a reputation as one of the most influential players in basketball history, Steph Curry doesn’t need to share credit for his jumper—especially with someone he’s never even met.
