LeBron James is officially drawing a line in the digital sand. The NBA legend has launched legal action against Interlink AI, the company responsible for a bizarre series of AI-generated deepfake videos that showed the basketball icon in outrageous—and entirely fictional—scenarios.

Among the most viral: a clip of LeBron appearing pregnant, and another placing him inside a jail cell next to embattled music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs. The surreal videos, powered by artificial intelligence, exploded across platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and Discord, sparking confusion, backlash, and serious ethical concerns.

This new wave of content—known online as “brainrot” videos—is characterized by absurd, hyper-realistic scenes featuring public figures in strange or controversial situations. While some viewers recognized the videos as satire, others were fooled by their authenticity, forcing a conversation about the fine line between entertainment and misinformation.

LeBron’s legal team moved swiftly, firing off cease-and-desist letters not only to Interlink AI but also to several social media accounts that had amplified the content. The pressure worked. Multiple Instagram pages either wiped the videos or went dark altogether, and Interlink AI responded by removing all depictions of real people from its platform.

Despite those efforts, the genie may already be out of the bottle. New deepfake clips featuring LeBron continue to circulate across social media, pushing the boundaries of what’s acceptable and reigniting a fierce debate about AI’s role in pop culture, privacy, and digital consent.

While LeBron has yet to issue a public statement, his legal action sends a powerful message: celebrities—and everyday people—deserve protection from unauthorized digital impersonation. His case could set a pivotal precedent in the ongoing fight to regulate deepfake technology and redefine the limits of “creative” content in the AI era.
