Suge Knight Agrees to $1.5M Settlement with Family of Terry Carter The Man He Was convicted of Fatally Running Over

Suge Knight has reached a $1.5 million settlement with the family of Terry Carter, the man he was convicted of fatally running over in 2015. The Death Row Records co-founder agreed to the terms during a video appearance from Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility in San Diego, where he is currently serving a 28-year prison sentence.
According to Rolling Stone, the settlement will be split equally among Carter’s widow, Lillian, and daughters Nekaya and Crystal—each receiving $500,000. The agreement comes after Knight’s attorney, David Kenner, attempted to withdraw from the wrongful death case in recent weeks.
“Terry was a friend of mine. It definitely wasn’t done intentionally. It wasn’t done to bring harm to him,” Knight told the outlet. “One of the reasons I settled [is] I got respect for Terry, so that means I’ve got respect for his family. I didn’t want to put the family through more pain.”
Despite maintaining that he never intended to harm Carter, Knight acknowledged the suffering caused by the incident. “I do owe the family an apology because of this thing they had to go through,” he added.
Carter’s widow, Lillian, expressed the depth of her grief: “It’s hard living without him when I lived all those many years with him. It’s been very, very difficult. […] I’m not happy with the outcome of it, at all, but I don’t want to give him another opportunity to put on a clown show and act like a b*tch. Maybe somebody will shank him in jail.”
Knight pleaded no contest to voluntary manslaughter after running over Carter during a confrontation outside a Compton burger stand in January 2015. He was arrested the following day and has been incarcerated since. His parole eligibility date is set for October 2034, when he’ll be 69.
In prison, Knight has remained active, even launching a podcast titled Collect Call, where he shares his views on hip-hop, incarceration, and industry figures—including recent jabs at former labelmate Snoop Dogg.
