Soulja Boy Beats the Case — LA Prosecutors Drop Gun Charges, Rapper Walks Free

Soulja Boy is back on the streets after Los Angeles prosecutors decided not to press charges following his weekend arrest.

The rapper, born DeAndre Cortez Way, was taken into custody early Sunday morning when LAPD pulled over a vehicle near Melrose Avenue. Officers claimed the 35-year-old was in possession of a firearm — a big legal problem for him due to a past felony conviction.

But on Tuesday, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced they would not be moving forward with the case, citing “insufficient evidence.” Jail records show Soulja Boy walked out of custody shortly before 2 p.m. The arrest went down just blocks from his SODMG clothing store.

This latest brush with the law adds to Soulja Boy’s long list of legal drama. In April, a jury ordered him to pay $4 million in damages to a former girlfriend who accused him of abuse, including assault and sexual battery. And back in 2014, he was convicted for carrying a loaded firearm in a vehicle after a separate San Fernando Valley arrest.

Wasting no time, Soulja Boy hit Instagram Stories with a “First Day Out” post and video, letting fans know Big Draco is officially back outside.
