Oprah Winfrey is opening up about a moment involving the late Whitney Houston that the public never knew about — and she says it could have changed the superstar’s life if it had been exposed.

During a recent conversation at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, Oprah reflected on how celebrity culture has changed over the years and shared a story about Whitney that remained hidden from the public.

According to Oprah, Whitney once fell off the stage during a performance on “The Oprah Winfrey Show.” While the incident happened in front of a live audience, Oprah said she immediately understood the potential damage the footage could cause if it became public.

“I knew that if that story got out … she would be destroyed by that,” Oprah explained. “And so even though the audience was there and the audience had cameras, I begged them not to put those pictures out because it would ruin her life.”

Remarkably, Oprah said the audience respected her request and chose not to release any photos or footage from the incident.

The media mogul used the story as an example of how different the world was before social media dominated everyday life. Oprah noted that in today’s digital age, it would be nearly impossible to keep a moment like that private.

“That would not happen today, I can tell you that,” she said.
