Comedian and actor Marlon Wayans is opening up about the profound impact his transgender child, Kai, has had on his life, sharing that their journey together has taught him the true meaning of unconditional love. In a recent appearance on Michelle Obama’s IMO podcast, Wayans candidly discussed his evolution as a parent, revealing that he transitioned from denial to complete acceptance in just a week.

“When they went through the transition, I actually went through the transition,” Wayans said. “I went from denial to complete acceptance. It took me a week to get there.”

Wayans emphasized the importance of unwavering support for his child, stating, “I’m going to love my baby. I’m a father. I’m always going to defend them, I’m always going to protect them, I’m always going to respect them.”

However, his steadfast support has not been without personal cost. Wayans revealed that he lost certain relationships due to his advocacy for Kai, noting, “There’s people that go, ‘I’m not going to associate with you because you do that, or this is against God’… But I am going to love my baby… I lost people that are small-minded, small-hearted, and self-loathing. So goodbye.”

Despite these challenges, Wayans remains resolute in his commitment to his child and the broader LGBTQ+ community. He is channeling his experiences into his work, planning a new comedy special tentatively titled Rainbow Child, which will delve into his journey of acceptance and aim to inspire other parents facing similar situations.
