Lil Yachty is catching major heat online after previewing a song with a lyric many are calling “disrespectful” and “tone-deaf.” During his appearance on PlaqueBoyMax’s livestream, the Atlanta rapper rapped, “Put my knee up on her neck, I went George Floyd” — a line that immediately sparked outrage across social media.

George Floyd’s tragic death in 2020, caused by a police officer kneeling on his neck during an arrest, became a pivotal moment in the global fight against police brutality. The graphic nature of his killing — and its deep emotional impact on millions — made Yachty’s lyric especially controversial.

In the livestream clip, Yachty and his crew appeared to enjoy the track, nodding along as the line dropped. But the internet didn’t share the same reaction. Critics quickly voiced their disappointment and anger:

  • “This shit so ass dawg. Not even gon lie to you bruh @lilyachty. You can do better than this dawg.”
  • “Mocking one of the most horrific deaths in American history… not only is Judy not hip-hop, but the bar is hollow and distasteful.”
  • “Yachty might genuinely be one of the worst rappers that went mainstream ever, how does he still have a platform?”

Some even compared it to other infamous rap bars that crossed the line, like Lil Wayne’s controversial Emmett Till lyric, saying Yachty’s was worse. Others pointed out how older rappers once got away with shocking references, citing Wayne’s “Rodney King” bar.

The backlash even reached George Floyd’s family circle. Former NBA player Stephen Jackson, a close friend of Floyd’s, was tagged in posts condemning the lyric and calling for respect toward Floyd’s legacy.

For now, Lil Yachty hasn’t issued a statement — but the conversation around the line is loud and relentless, with fans questioning why such a lyric was written, let alone previewed publicly.
