Aaron Pierre Rumored to Be in the Running for James Bond Role in Next 007 Film

The race to find the next James Bond appears to be gaining quiet momentum—and a surprising new name has entered the conversation. According to a fresh report from industry insider Daniel Richtman, Lanterns star Aaron Pierre is now “being considered” for the legendary role of 007.
Pierre, a 31-year-old British actor known for his powerful performances in The Underground Railroad, Old, Brother, and most recently, DC and HBO’s upcoming Lanterns series, is reportedly on Amazon MGM’s radar as they prepare to usher in a new era for the iconic franchise.
While Richtman notes it’s unclear if Pierre has officially met with producers, the rumor alone has sparked excitement. With filming for the next Bond movie tentatively expected to begin sometime next year—and no director officially attached—casting speculation is ramping up.
Pierre’s inclusion marks a notable shift in how the franchise may be reimagining its lead. Since Daniel Craig’s emotional exit in No Time To Die, numerous actors have been rumored to inherit the role, but Pierre represents a new, fresh possibility. Importantly, he checks one of the few non-negotiable boxes listed by Amazon MGM: he’s a London-born Englishman.
A recent internal memo at Amazon/MGM made it clear: “The spy will not change gender or nationality.” While that statement ruled out some of the more radical fan theories, it still leaves plenty of room for a bold casting choice—and Pierre could fit the bill. His commanding screen presence, versatility, and rising star status make him a strong contender to bring something new to the franchise while honoring its legacy.
For years, fans had rallied behind Idris Elba as a dream Bond, though he ultimately distanced himself from the role. Now, under the guidance of powerhouse producers Amy Pascal and David Heyman, along with Amazon MGM Studios’ leadership, the next Bond film is set to reflect both legacy and evolution.
“James Bond is one of the most iconic characters in the history of cinema,” Pascal and Heyman said in a joint statement. “We are humbled to follow in the footsteps of Barbara Broccoli and Michael Wilson and honored to keep the spirit of Bond very much alive as he embarks on his next adventure.”
Courtenay Valenti, Head of Film at Amazon MGM Studios, added: “We are approaching every creative decision with James Bond with the greatest sense of responsibility.”
At this stage, the casting of Aaron Pierre remains a rumor—but it’s one that carries real weight. If chosen, Pierre could bring a dynamic and modern edge to a character deeply rooted in cinematic tradition.
Would you be ready to see Aaron Pierre don the tux and take his martini shaken, not stirred? Let the fan casting begin.
