The investigation into Hayden Panettiere’s death is reportedly focusing on a suspected fentanyl-laced oxycodone pill, according to multiple law enforcement sources cited in reports surrounding the case.

Sources with knowledge of the investigation reportedly believe Panettiere may have taken an oxycodone pill the morning of her death that was unknowingly contaminated with fentanyl. Authorities are also reportedly examining her relationship with a longtime Los Angeles drug dealer who allegedly supplied her with various black-market prescription medications.

Investigators are said to be looking into drugs Panettiere reportedly purchased before traveling from Los Angeles to South Carolina. The DEA, along with South Carolina authorities, is reportedly working to determine where the suspected fatal pill originated.

When first responders arrived at the condo where Panettiere was staying with her boyfriend, Brian Hickerson, he reportedly provided a bag containing prescription medications. Hickerson also reportedly administered Narcan after Panettiere became unresponsive, but emergency responders were unable to revive her.

Authorities caution that the circumstances surrounding her death remain under investigation and that toxicology results are needed to determine the official cause of death.
