Malcolm-Jamal Warner’s Widow Sues His Mother, Claims Late Actor Left Behind $1.2 Million In Unfulfilled Prenup Promises

A new legal battle has emerged one year after the tragic death of Malcolm-Jamal Warner.

According to newly filed court documents, the late actor’s widow, Tenisha Warner, is suing Malcolm’s mother, Pamela Warner, who currently serves as trustee of the Warner Family Trust.

Tenisha alleges that the beloved Cosby Show star failed to fulfill several financial obligations outlined in the prenuptial agreement they signed in May 2022, shortly before their marriage.

Among the biggest claims in the lawsuit is an allegation that Malcolm agreed to maintain a $1 million life insurance policy naming Tenisha as the sole beneficiary. However, she claims that policy was never purchased or maintained.

The lawsuit also alleges that Malcolm failed to provide several other financial benefits promised in the prenup, including annual tax-free payments, contributions to a Roth IRA, and a monthly salary for her role as his chief of staff and assistant during their marriage.

According to the filing, the alleged unpaid obligations total approximately $1,276,042.46.

The breakdown reportedly includes:

• $1 million for the life insurance policy
• More than $50,000 in anniversary payments
• Approximately $30,500 in IRA contributions
• Roughly $195,000 in unpaid salary

Tenisha reportedly believes Malcolm’s estate does not have enough assets to satisfy the alleged debt and is now asking the court to allow her to collect from the Warner Family Trust instead.

She is also seeking attorney’s fees, interest, and a court order preventing any distributions from the trust until the case is resolved.

The lawsuit was filed exactly one year after Malcolm’s tragic death.

As previously reported, the actor, best known for portraying Theo Huxtable on The Cosby Show, died on July 20, 2025, after drowning while vacationing in Costa Rica. He was 54 years old.

The lawsuit adds another heartbreaking chapter to the legacy of the late television star, whose passing shocked fans and colleagues throughout Hollywood.

Neither Pamela Warner nor representatives for Malcolm’s estate have publicly commented on the lawsuit.
