Veteran New York City DJ Funk Flex is under fire after sharing controversial comments on Instagram regarding singer Cassie Ventura and her legal battles with Sean “Diddy” Combs.

The Hot 97 personality posted a lengthy message expressing sympathy for Cassie’s early years in the music industry, but ultimately questioned her victimhood status in light of her recent legal settlement and the resurfacing of abuse allegations.

“I THINK CASSIE HAS BEEN THROUGH A LOT ESPECIALLY AT A YOUNG AGE,” he wrote. “SHE IS SUCH A NICE PERSON AND ALWAYS GAVE OFF GOOD ENERGY! I HOPE HER AND HER FAMILY OVERCOME ALL OF THE PAIN THEY ARE GOING THROUGH!”

However, Flex’s tone shifted as he appeared to criticize Cassie’s legal approach and motivations. “I DO THINK YOU AND YOUR LAWYERS SHOULD GIVE IT A REST! YOU THREATENED TO DROP A BOOK THEN GOT PAID OUT TO NOT DROP THE BOOK! … YOU 30MIL UP AND 10MIL UP FROM HOTEL! YOU PLAN THIS ‘LICK’ … PLEASE DON’T BE MAD AT ME BUT I DON’T SEE U AS A ‘VICTIM.’”

He continued, “YOU WAS YOUNG, DIDDY MADE BAD CHOICES AND YOU MADE BAD CHOICES! WHEN DO U PLAN TO TEACH GIRLS NOT TO MAKE THE SAME MISTAKES YOU MADE? JUST MY OPINION!”

Flex’s comments come months after Cassie settled a civil lawsuit in which she accused Diddy of years of abuse and coercion. The lawsuit was resolved within 24 hours of being filed, with undisclosed terms. The legal action reignited public scrutiny of Diddy, who is currently under federal investigation and facing multiple lawsuits.

While Flex claims he was simply sharing his opinion, critics online have slammed his post as victim-blaming and insensitive. Supporters of Cassie argue that his remarks ignore the power dynamics and trauma often involved in abusive relationships, especially between a young artist and a music mogul.

Cassie has not publicly responded to Flex’s comments.
