John Amos, ‘Good Times’ and ‘Roots’ Star, Dies At 84

John Amos, acclaimed actor known for “Good Times,” “Roots,” and “The Mary Tyler Moore Show,” passed away on August 21 in Los Angeles at 84. His son Kelly Christopher Amos described him as “a man with the kindest heart” and praised his acting legacy, including recent roles in “Suits LA” and a documentary on his life, “America’s Dad.” Amos earned an Emmy nod for his portrayal of Kunta Kinte in the iconic miniseries “Roots,” which garnered huge viewership and numerous awards.
