Cam’ron Blames JAY-Z for Lil Wayne’s Super Bowl Snub, Calls It ‘Payback’ for Past Rivalry

Cam’ron has voiced his displeasure about Lil Wayne being passed over for the 2025 Super Bowl halftime show in New Orleans and places the blame on JAY-Z. On his sports talk show It Is What It Is (September 9), Cam’ron praised Kendrick Lamar, who has been selected to headline the event, but called the decision a “hate the selection” moment, given that it’s in New Orleans and Lil Wayne, a native of the city, was overlooked.
Cam’ron suggested that JAY-Z, who has been working with the NFL since 2020 as a live music entertainment strategist, may be behind the decision. He hinted that Wayne’s previous rivalry with JAY-Z is influencing this, calling it “payback” for past tensions, especially considering the history between their camps in the late 2000s and early 2010s.
Cam’ron referenced the rivalry between Wayne and JAY-Z when Wayne was striving for the “Best Rapper Alive” title. Despite this, Cam’ron acknowledged that the two rappers have resolved their issues, but he believes this situation may be a form of retribution.
While Lil Wayne has not commented on the matter, his longtime engineer, Fabian Marasciullo, expressed frustration on Instagram, stating that they won’t allow themselves to be in such a position again.
The sentiment from Cam’ron reflects a broader disappointment in New Orleans over the missed opportunity to showcase one of its biggest stars on such a global stage.
