Tensions flared in Manhattan after several officers with the New York City Police Department were reportedly injured Monday afternoon while responding to a call at Washington Square Park.

Police say officers arrived at the park around 4 p.m. following reports of multiple individuals on top of a roof inside the park. Once on scene, officers were allegedly struck with snowballs, resulting in injuries.

Authorities say multiple officers were transported to the hospital with facial lacerations.

NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch took to social media, calling the behavior “disgraceful” and “criminal.”

The Police Benevolent Association of the City of New York (PBA) also released a strong statement, calling the incident “unacceptable and outrageous.”

“This is the environment that NYC police officers are up against,” the PBA wrote. “The individuals involved must be identified, arrested and charged with assault on a police officer.”

DEA President Scott Munro echoed similar sentiments, urging Zohran Mamdani and Alvin Bragg to ensure those responsible are prosecuted.

“No free pass. No get out of jail free card,” Munro said, adding that detectives are working to identify and apprehend those involved.

As of now, authorities have not announced any arrests. The investigation remains ongoing.
