Tyler Perry Pulls Up to ATL Airport With Cash and Gift Cards for TSA Workers Amid Shutdown Crisis

Atlanta’s own Tyler Perry is once again showing the city—and the country—what real support looks like.

The billionaire filmmaker returned to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, this time with a smart workaround to help TSA workers who’ve been going weeks without pay due to the ongoing government shutdown impacting the Department of Homeland Security.

Initially, Perry attempted to hand out cash directly to TSA officers, but federal rules blocked workers from accepting money. Not one to back down, Perry and his team pivoted—pulling up with envelopes filled with gift cards instead.

Sources say the moment his team started handing out the cards, smiles spread instantly across the airport. For workers who’ve been struggling to cover basic expenses, the gesture brought real relief—even if temporary.

According to reports, TSA officers haven’t received paychecks for six weeks, leaving many families in tough positions. While rules prevented direct financial gifts, union-related channels and alternative forms like gift cards helped Perry get around the red tape and still make an impact.

This isn’t Perry’s first time stepping up. During a previous shutdown in 2025, he reportedly donated $1.5 million to help Atlanta families affected by cuts to SNAP benefits. And even before the gift cards, his presence alone—thanking workers and taking photos—lifted morale in a major way.

Meanwhile, the situation saw movement at the federal level, with Donald Trump signing an executive action aimed at ensuring TSA employees receive back pay after delays in Congress.

Still, for many on the ground, it was Perry’s personal touch that hit different.

In a time where help isn’t always guaranteed, he found a way to show up anyway.
