Charlene Keys — better known to the world as Tweet — is officially back. After years away from the spotlight, the GRAMMY-nominated singer/songwriter has announced new music, a new label, and a fresh album era.

Over the weekend, Tweet took to Instagram to share the news with her 411k followers, confirming that her new single “Toot Toot” will debut September 26.

“It’s time to take you back,” she wrote. “20 years in the making; I never left, I just kept recording. Next up [is] ‘Toot Toot’ from the highly anticipated Memoirs of a Southern Hummingbird [album].”

The announcement marks a long-awaited return since her last album, Charlene, dropped in 2016. Her new project serves as a conceptual continuation of her iconic 2002 debut Southern Hummingbird, which produced timeless hits like “Oops (Oh My)” and “Call Me.” That debut reached No. 2 on the Billboard R&B charts and solidified Tweet as one of the sultriest voices of her generation.

Tweet’s story has always been one of resilience. After a winding path that nearly took her out of music, Missy Elliott and Timbaland helped revive her career in the early 2000s, signing her to Missy’s Goldmind Records. Alongside her solo work, she lent her signature vocals to projects for Missy, Ja Rule, Trina, Karen Clark Sheard, Monica, and Angie Stone.
