On May 12, 2025, rapper Tory Lanez, born Daystar Peterson, was reportedly stabbed multiple times during an altercation at the California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi, where he is serving a 10-year sentence for the 2020 shooting of Megan Thee Stallion. The incident occurred around 7:20 a.m. during morning yard time. Lanez sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a hospital in Bakersfield.

According to reports, Lanez was stabbed 14 times, resulting in injuries to his back, torso, head, and face, and causing both of his lungs to collapse. He was placed on a breathing apparatus but is now breathing independently. His team stated that he is in good spirits and grateful for the public’s support.

Lanez was convicted in December 2022 on charges including assault with a semiautomatic firearm, possession of a loaded and unregistered firearm, and grossly negligent discharge of a firearm, stemming from the July 2020 incident involving Megan Thee Stallion. He is eligible for parole in 2029.

The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, along with the Office of the Inspector General and the Kern County District Attorney’s Office, have launched an investigation into the stabbing. No suspects have been identified at this time.
