Stephen A. Smith Fires Back at Michelle Obama Over ESPN “Real Housewives” Jab

Stephen A. Smith is not letting Michelle Obama’s recent comments slide. On her IMO podcast, the former First Lady compared ESPN’s fiery sports debates — including Smith’s — to the drama‑heavy antics of The Real Housewives of Atlanta.

“It’s the same drama, and they’re yelling at each other, and they don’t get along, you know? I mean, Stephen A. Smith, he’s just like every other talk show host,” she said.

That little shade didn’t go unnoticed. In his latest YouTube segment, the ESPN star made it clear he has the utmost respect for Michelle Obama — but he’s still “salty” over both her analogy and her past political comments.

Smith reminded listeners that he took offense when Michelle suggested voting for Trump was a vote “against her” personally.

“Michelle Obama, I wanna take this opportunity to remind you that while you are revered by me personally — and I mean that sincerely — I’m still a bit salty at you,” he said.

Smith explained that not everyone votes on the same issues, pointing out that for some, the economy, national security, or immigration may outweigh other political concerns.

As for the Real Housewives comparison? Smith called it “sensational” — but wrong. He argued that sports debates are fueled by genuine competition, stats, and passion, while reality TV often thrives on scripted or staged drama.

“No, reality TV is not like that. You’re so wrong about that assertion, but that’s neither here nor there,” he said.

Smith even suggested Michelle invite dissenting voices on her podcast to keep the conversation balanced — just like he and his co‑hosts challenge each other daily on ESPN.

Still, he closed with admiration:

“You will never hear me utter a negative word about you. However, I’m still pretty salty about what you said.”
