Sexyy Red’s “Eat It” Remix Sparks Backlash — Michael Jackson Estate Says It’s “Unauthorized”

Sexyy Red is trending again — but this time, it’s not just social media roasting her… it’s the Michael Jackson estate weighing in.

The St. Louis rapper recently went viral after Lil Yachty posted a TikTok clip of her performing a remake of MJ’s iconic “Beat It,” flipping it into a bold new version titled “Eat It.” The snippet quickly took over timelines, with fans debating everything from the lyrics to the audacity of reworking a pop classic.

But now things have escalated.

According to The Breakfast Club co-host Loren LoRosa, she reached out to a representative of Michael Jackson’s estate for clarification — and the response was direct:

“We were totally unaware of this. The use of the music is unauthorized.”

That statement has added a whole new layer to the controversy. While fans were already split over the creative direction of the remake, the estate’s response suggests the sample or usage may not have been cleared.

It’s currently unclear whether the track was just a studio freestyle, a teaser, or intended for official release. Neither Sexyy Red nor Lil Yachty has publicly addressed the estate’s statement.

Sampling iconic records always comes with paperwork — especially when it involves one of the biggest artists in music history. If the song was meant for commercial release, clearance from the estate would be required.

For now, the internet is doing what it does best — debating whether this was bold creativity or a legal misstep waiting to happen.

One thing’s certain: flipping “Beat It” without permission is definitely going to cause noise.
