Rodney Jones’ Lawsuit Against Cuba Gooding Jr. and Justin Combs Dismissed Over Failure to Serve

Rodney Jones’ explosive lawsuit against Cuba Gooding Jr. and Justin Combs has hit a legal roadblock. A judge dismissed the case on Tuesday morning, citing Jones’ attorney Tyrone Blackburn’s failure to properly serve the two defendants with legal documents. The dismissal is without prejudice, meaning Jones can refile—but only if he can get the paperwork done right next time.

Court documents reveal that Blackburn waited until the final moments before the legal deadline to make meaningful efforts to serve the lawsuit, originally filed in February 2024. Attempts to serve Justin Combs reportedly failed due to a gated residence. A process server was told to leave the documents with a security guard, but didn’t follow through. Even after a second attempt, the documents were never delivered.

As for Cuba Gooding Jr., the court found that Blackburn presented no evidence of any attempts to serve the actor in either New York or Florida.

Jones’ lawsuit accused Sean “Diddy” Combs, Gooding Jr., and Justin Combs of serious misconduct, including sexual assault and the facilitation of inappropriate party environments. All three have firmly denied the allegations, with Diddy’s attorney at the time, Shawn Holley, saying they had “overwhelming, indisputable proof” disproving Jones’ claims—evidence Blackburn allegedly declined to review.

Blackburn has yet to comment on whether he intends to refile the case.
