New York City police are stepping up the search for the gunman who shot NFL cornerback Kris Boyd during a violent incident in Midtown this past weekend. Authorities released new images and video of the suspect, hoping the public can help track down the man responsible.

Boyd — a cornerback for the New York Jets — was rushed to Bellevue Hospital in critical condition after being shot in the stomach around 2 a.m. Sunday morning. The bullet traveled through his abdomen and is now lodged in his lung, forcing him to undergo multiple medical procedures. Doctors say his condition has stabilized, but he still faces a long road to recovery.

NYPD released updated footage showing the suspect fleeing the scene. The man is described as wearing:

  • A black cap
  • Black sweatshirt
  • Black pants
  • Multi-colored sneakers
  • A black book bag

Detectives are analyzing the footage frame-by-frame as they work “around the clock” to identify him.

Boyd told detectives he was outside Sei Less, a popular Asian fusion restaurant on West 38th Street, when a dispute erupted. The exact motive remains unclear, but investigators are digging into a strong lead: a possible attempted robbery involving Boyd’s necklace.

The area is known for celebrity sightings, nightlife crowding, and heavy foot traffic — adding complexity to the investigation.

Boyd’s teammates and friends across the league are shaken.

Jets defensive end Jermaine Johnson posted:

“Everybody please send prayers to my brother and teammate Kris Boyd and his family!”

Jets tight end Jeremy Ruckert added emotional words:

“He just had a child… You think about those people in his life and pray for him and his family.”

The Jets organization issued a brief statement acknowledging they are aware of the situation but did not share further details.

Boyd signed a one-year, $1.6 million contract with the Jets this season. While a preseason shoulder injury kept him off the field, he remained a valued part of the roster.

Originally drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in 2019, Boyd also played for the Arizona Cardinals and Houston Texans before landing in New York.

Sei Less, a well-known dining destination frequented by athletes, artists, and even Mayor Eric Adams, confirmed they are cooperating with investigators.

As the NYPD intensifies its search, the football community and fans nationwide are hoping for justice — and a full recovery for the young father and athlete.
