Nessa Diab Blasts JAY-Z and Roc Nation, Compares Alleged Foul Industry Tactics Against Nicki Minaj and Colin Kaepernick

HOT 97 host and activist Nessa Diab, longtime partner of Colin Kaepernick, is taking aim at Jay-Z, Roc Nation, and its CEO Desiree Perez in a fiery series of tweets accusing them of betraying social justice movements for corporate gain. In her latest public statement, Diab alleges that Roc Nation accepted millions from the NFL to help “suppress” player protests—specifically the ones ignited by Kaepernick’s now-iconic decision to kneel during the national anthem.

“The methods used against @NICKIMINAJ are remarkably similar to what I was informed was done to @Kaepernick7,” Diab tweeted, drawing a striking parallel between the treatment of her partner and the ongoing scrutiny faced by Nicki Minaj. According to Diab, both figures are victims of a larger campaign by industry power players determined to neutralize high-profile dissenters.

At the core of her claims is a deal between Roc Nation and the NFL, which Diab says involved a $25 million payout—$5 million annually over five years. She accuses Roc Nation of using its influence to shift public focus away from protest and toward sanitized, brand-safe messaging. Citing a past quote from Perez about “fighting for the stage” instead of boycotting, Diab argued this was more about optics than genuine change.

But Diab didn’t stop there.

She also raised suspicions about Perez’s 2021 presidential pardon by Donald Trump. “She received her pardon from Trump; it’s no coincidence that NFL owners are his associates and contributed millions to his campaign,” Diab wrote, suggesting a deeper network of influence linking politics, corporate interests, and media.

Diab has been a vocal critic of Jay-Z’s controversial 2019 partnership with the NFL, calling it a betrayal of the movement her partner helped ignite. “I called them all out YEARS ago, and so many people were afraid to voice their agreement publicly but would tell me privately,” she stated. Reaffirming her stance, she added: “I still don’t watch that league or whoever is performing at whatever game they have playing. #stillwithkap #FOREVER.”

As of now, Jay-Z, Roc Nation, and Perez have not responded to Diab’s explosive accusations, but the controversy has reopened long-standing debates over the corporatization of activism—and who benefits when movements are rebranded instead of resisted.

Whether or not her claims lead to further fallout remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: Nessa Diab is not backing down.
