Mýa Keeps It Real: ‘Marriage & Kids Never Been My Priority’ — Singer Says She Chose Peace, Work & Growth Instead

Mýa is letting the world know she’s on her own wave when it comes to love, family, and life goals. The singer and actress recently sat down with Melyssa Ford on the Hot & Bothered podcast and got real about why marriage and children have never been a part of her vision board.

“I’ve never had a desire for marriage and children,” the 45-year-old said, explaining that her perspective was shaped by watching her parents’ divorce and navigating the ups and downs of the music industry. Instead of chasing a “traditional” lifestyle, Mýa poured her energy into independence, creativity, and spiritual growth.

“It’s not even my focus, and it never has been,” she continued. “The white wedding dress? I was very fearful of those things. So I looked elsewhere and probably escaped too much in my work. My job requires me to travel 95% of the time, and I know I wouldn’t be able to properly show up for a significant other.”

Still, Mýa says she isn’t completely shutting the door. “Not to say I won’t [have the desire] and not to say I’m not open,” she admitted. “It just hasn’t kicked in for me yet.”

Fans might remember when she had the internet in a chokehold back in 2020 after dropping wedding photos from a beach ceremony. Rumors swirled that she tied the knot in secret — but it was all a creative stunt for her video The Truth, celebrating self-love.
