🚨 “Hit the Quan” Rapper iHeartMemphis Arrested After SWAT Standoff in Florida
Tennessee rapper iHeartMemphis, best known for his 2015 viral smash “Hit the Quan,” was arrested early Tuesday morning following a tense overnight SWAT standoff at a residence in Plantation, Florida.
According to Plantation police, officers initially responded late Monday night to a welfare check near the 8600 block of Gatehouse Road. What started as a routine call quickly escalated into a barricade situation that required a tactical response. The standoff reportedly lasted several hours before ending without any injuries.
The rapper, whose real name is Richard Maurice Colbert, was taken into custody shortly after 3 a.m. Authorities later confirmed he had an active warrant for written or electronic threats to kill, though specific details about the warrant have not been released.
Family members told CBS News Miami they had been trying to get Colbert help in the days leading up to the incident due to concerns about his mental state.
In the hours before his arrest, Colbert posted a series of alarming videos to social media. In some clips, officers could be seen arriving at the residence. In others, he made statements that police described as concerning, including claims that he believed he was God and that clouds were watching him.
During the standoff, Colbert livestreamed from inside the home, drawing nearly 20,000 viewers at one point. He appeared visibly distressed, repeatedly asking for help and insisting he did not want to harm anyone.
“Please, please save me y’all. I’m begging you. I don’t got nothing. I don’t want to hurt nobody,” he said during the broadcast.
Footage from the scene showed visible property damage, including a bent garage door, shattered glass, and a vehicle overturned outside the home. Near the end of the livestream, Colbert was seen crouching in the garage before SWAT officers moved in and arrested him.
Police say he was transported to a hospital for evaluation following his arrest. Authorities also confirmed that a dog inside the residence was safely removed and released to a family member.
iHeartMemphis rose to fame nearly a decade ago when “Hit the Quan” became a viral dance phenomenon across social media, sports arenas, and pop culture. The investigation into the recent incident remains ongoing.
