The deal includes a significant pay increase, with Sanders set to earn $10 million in 2025, becoming the highest-paid coach in the Big 12. His salary will continue to rise, with $10 million in 2026, $11 million in 2027, $11 million in 2028, and $12 million in 2029.

The contract also includes a buyout clause in the event Sanders leaves for another coaching job. If he does so before the contract ends, the buyout will begin at $12 million for 2025, decreasing each year to $3 million in 2029. If Sanders retires, no damages are required unless he returns to coach at another college.
