Damon Wayans Reveals He Didn’t Meet Son Damon Wayans Jr. Until He Was 5 Weeks Old
Damon Wayans is reflecting on his early days of fatherhood, revealing that he didn’t meet his son, Damon Wayans Jr., until he was five weeks old.
In a recent interview with PEOPLE, the comedian admitted that he wasn’t ready for the responsibility of raising a child at the time. “I sent his mom to Vermont to live with her mother. I was too young to have a child,” he shared.
When he finally met his son for the first time, Wayans recalled an emotional moment. “I heard him crying. And as soon as I picked him up, he stopped,” he said. “I realized, I gotta be a man for this guy.”
Now, 42 years later, the father-son duo is working together on-screen, co-starring in the new CBS sitcom Poppa’s House.
