Larenz Tate is expanding his influence beyond the screen and stepping deeper into the business of ownership, distribution and independent storytelling.

The acclaimed actor has joined Vault, a new streaming and distribution platform created to provide independent filmmakers with greater access to audiences and opportunities within an industry that has historically presented major barriers to emerging creators.

Tate is partnering with Newark International Film Festival founder Kenneth Gifford, alongside his brothers and longtime business partners Larron and Lahmard Tate. Together, the group intends to build an ecosystem where filmmakers can showcase their work without relying exclusively on traditional Hollywood gatekeepers.

For Tate, whose career includes celebrated performances in Love JonesMenace II SocietyDead PresidentsRay and the Power universe, the venture represents a natural extension of the work he has already accomplished through TateMen Entertainment.

The significance of Vault reaches beyond the launch of another streaming service. Independent filmmakers frequently struggle to secure theatrical distribution, marketing support and placement on major digital platforms—even after successfully completing their projects. Vault enters the marketplace with a mission centered on addressing that disconnect.

Tate’s involvement also reflects a broader shift among Black creatives who are moving from appearing in projects to controlling how those projects are produced, distributed and monetized.

After decades of helping bring culturally defining characters to life, Larenz Tate is now helping create a pathway for the storytellers coming behind him. This next chapter is not simply about visibility—it is about access, infrastructure and ownership.
