Country music has lost one of its greatest icons. Dolly Parton has died at 80. đŸ’”đŸ•Šïž

Parton’s death was announced Tuesday by her nephew, Brian Seaver, on Instagram. Multiple outlets have confirmed her passing. 

The legendary singer, songwriter, actress and philanthropist leaves behind a career spanning more than six decades and a catalog filled with songs that became part of the fabric of American music, including “Jolene,” “9 to 5” and “I Will Always Love You.” 

Born into poverty in rural Tennessee, Parton transformed herself into a global superstar while becoming one of the best-selling recording artists in history. She sold more than 100 million records worldwide and earned numerous honors throughout her career. 

Her impact extended well beyond music.

Parton became a successful actress, starring in films including 9 to 5 and Steel Magnolias. She also built the Dollywood entertainment empire and founded the Imagination Library, which has provided hundreds of millions of free books to children. 

The news comes just days after Parton spoke publicly about ongoing health problems.

In an interview published August 21, Parton said she had been dealing with health issues that she hadn’t paid enough attention to while caring for her husband, Carl Dean, who died in March 2025 after nearly 60 years of marriage. 

Parton had also canceled appearances in recent months, including a Dollywood event after experiencing dizziness and dehydration, while her Las Vegas residency had been postponed because of health concerns. 

A cause of death has not been publicly disclosed.

From a little girl growing up in Tennessee to one of the most recognizable entertainers on the planet, Dolly Parton’s journey was truly extraordinary.
