Zohran Mamdani spent part of his Saturday in the Bronx with some young students — and had a very special guest by his side, former President Barack Obama.

The two appeared together at Learning Through Play Pre-K Center, where they read books to 3K and Pre-K students, sang songs, and spent time with the children.

While reading the book Alone and Together, Obama playfully put Mamdani on the spot after the word “flourish” came up in the story.

“Together we flourish! What does ‘flourish’ mean? Mr. Mayor?” Obama joked.

Mamdani laughed and replied, “I knew you were going to pass that to me. It means that we’re doing really well.”

The event marked the first public appearance together for Zohran Mamdani and Barack Obama, although the two had reportedly spoken privately before. Obama is said to have called Mamdani before Election Day last year, telling him he was “impressive to watch” and offering support as he stepped into office.

Their appearance comes as Mamdani celebrates his first 100 days as mayor and continues rolling out the city’s new 2K childcare program for two-year-olds.

After the visit, Barack Obama shared a post saying he had a great time with “New York City’s cutest” and thanked Mamdani for letting him break out his best version of “Wheels on the Bus.”
