La La Anthony Keeps It Real on Filming Sex Scenes

La La Anthony is pulling the curtain back on one of Hollywood’s most misunderstood parts of acting — filming sex scenes. And according to her, it’s a lot less hot and heavy than people think.

In a new interview with Complex, the actress and media personality admitted, “It’s always awkward. It never feels natural, no matter how many times you do it.” She explained that while fans see steamy, effortless chemistry on-screen, the real-life experience is choreographed down to the tiniest detail.

“You’re half-naked, pretending to be in a personal moment with someone who’s probably just a coworker,” La La said. “Nothing’s actually happening… but you still have to sell it.”

Behind those “intimate” scenes is a room full of directors, producers, and camera crew — all under bright lights and tight schedules. That’s where intimacy coordinators come in. These on-set specialists, now common in Hollywood since the MeToo movement, help block scenes, set boundaries, and make sure every step is consensual.

“They treat it like work — and that’s how it should be,” La La added, stressing the importance of professionalism and safety.

From her breakout role as LaKeisha Grant on Power to her appearances in The Chi, BMF, and films like Think Like a Man, La La has experienced firsthand how the industry’s expectations have shifted. As TV and film scripts call for more raw and unfiltered portrayals of relationships, actors are rewriting the rules on consent and creative boundaries.

For La La, the message is clear: sexy on-screen moments might look effortless, but they’re built on preparation, professionalism, and a whole lot of pretending.
